At STAR – Steps to Active Recovery, we meet people every day who are beginning to question the role alcohol plays in their lives. For many, drinking becomes part of familiar routines — celebrations, winding down after work, socialising, or simply coping with stress. It can blend into the background so easily that its impact isn’t always obvious.
We understand that alcohol can become part of life in ways that feel routine or familiar. But for many people, there comes a moment when they start to wonder whether drinking is affecting their wellbeing, their confidence, or their sense of control. Alcohol Awareness Week is a chance to pause, reflect, and gently explore that question.
This Alcohol Awareness Week at STAR we encourage taking this opportunity to pause and check in with yourself. Not with judgement, but with curiosity. How is alcohol affecting your energy, your sleep, your mood, or your sense of balance? Are there moments when you feel less present, less connected, or less like yourself? These small reflections can be powerful. They’re often the first step toward understanding whether alcohol is supporting your wellbeing or quietly pulling you away from it.
STAR is built on the belief that recovery begins with understanding — understanding yourself, your patterns, and the impact alcohol, addiction, or compulsive habits may be having on your health, your relationships, and your day to day life. You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to make big decisions. Just taking a small step toward clarity can be powerful.
If you’re curious about where you stand, the Check Your Drinking quiz offers a simple, private way to look at your drinking habits and consider what they might mean for your wellbeing. Many people find that gaining insight is the first step toward feeling more grounded, more energised, and more connected to the life they want.
This Alcohol Awareness Week, we invite you to take one small, meaningful step toward understanding your relationship with alcohol — and toward the healthier, more hopeful future you deserve.
At STAR, we know that thinking about change can feel daunting — but you’re not alone. Our discovery network assists recovery-supportive communities built on compassion, shared experience, and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to move forward at their own pace. Whether you’re exploring, reducing, or actively working toward recovery, we would encourage that there is hope.
